The Château de Chenonceau is a French château spanning the River Cher, near the small village of Chenonceaux in the Indre-et-Loire département of the Loire Valley in France. It is one of the best-known châteaux of the Loire valley.
Beautiful - but not super kid friendly
This castle is a must see but there are some limitations with kids. Firstly you can't take in your own food so that can make it pricey. There is a picnic area but it is outside the gates so you can't really enjoy the gardens while you are eating like you can at some of the other Loire Valley castles. The castle itself seems to have lots of things which shouldn't be touched so I found that a bit stressful. The garden and castle themselves are absolutely stunning. The best part was hiring a boat and paddling it under the castle. Kids loved it, as did we. I'd suggest this as a half day excursion and head to some of the more kid friendlier castles for full day trips.
