Street Address

The massive canal that runs through the middle of Venice.  You can't miss it - see it by boat, or gaze at it from the Canal side walkways.

A hive of activity! Lovely to watch

The mighty grand canal snakes its way through Venice. We took a Vaporetto 1 down the Canal (you can also take number 2) and just sat and watched the sites float by. Some sections are more picturesque than others but it is wonderful to just sit back and relax and watch it all. There are lots of points along it that you can walk over bridges and have a drink canalside without having to be on a vaporetto or boat of some description. We did one trip in the day and another at night which is a MUST DO. I had the 5 year old asleep on me about half way through but the buildings take on a whole new life in the evening with some of the Palazzos being absolutely stunning as the lights are so pretty and you can see inside to the opulent decorations.
