The Castle of São Jorge (Portuguese: Castelo de São Jorge) is a Moorish castleoccupying a commanding hilltop overlooking the historic centre of the Portuguese city of Lisbon and Tagus River. The strongly fortifiedcitadel dates from medieval period of Portuguese history, and is one of the main tourist sites of Lisbon.
Great views, kids loved the peacocks most!
The castle is a beautiful thing in Lisbon - perched high up on the hill is looks amazing at night. The kids are free to get in so that is a bonus. Their favourite thing was the binoculars that you could pay €2 to look through and see the view. After that they loved the peacocks! They didn't get much from the museum or and castle itself which is essentially a ruin. We enjoyed it but the walls that you walk around the castle to enjoy the view were quite scary, safety rails not that high, i was convinced the kids were going to go over the edge. Great for the views of the city, but unless you love castle ruins, you might want to give it a miss.
