The bell tower of the St. Mark's Basilica is one of Venice's most recognizable landmarks. The current tower is an early twentieth century reconstruction of the original tower which collapsed in 1902.
Great view and safe for kids
We were told that the view from the top was worth it and so went up just for that. We didn't pay for the kids but I'm not sure if that was a misunderstanding with the man selling the tickets and my non existent Italian. Anyway, it is 8euro for adults and you just go up, look around and come down. It's the iconic tower in Saint Marco's square and so it is worth doing it just to see the view. Prams would be problematic and so going up with littlies might be a struggle. But at the top it is fully fenced and it isn't possible to fall over the edges- I felt as though my kids were very safe.
Lines can be long, we went about 4pm and only waited about 10 minutes but when we returned the next morning around 9.30am, the line was very long, so I think afternoon visits are better than morning.
